Meals on Wheels

Meals on Wheels provides meals to elderly, homebound, and handicapped persons in the Greater Hazleton Area, including Conyngham, Sugarloaf Township, and Butler Township. Clients receive two meals a day, Monday through Friday, consisting of a hot platter (which can be heated in a microwave) and a bag lunch, both made to meet the dietary standards of the client. The meals are delivered by voluntary drivers, who also provide social contact, emotional support, and a daily check on the physical well-being of the client. The cost to the client is $5/day and is subsidized for those who cannot pay this amount.

Prospective clients may call Terry Krash at 501-6027. Anyone interested in delivering meals in the Valley may call Phyllis Liotta, Valley Coordinator, at 788-2346. Meals are picked up at St. Joseph’s Hospital at about 10:00 AM; delivery takes about one hour.
